Our dress code is used to develop in students a sense of pride in themselves and in their school. Students are expected to come to school in a manner that reflects the school’s philosophy and purpose. The dress code is intended to promote respect for each other’s character and nurture a sense of responsibility for one’s belongings. The bright red colour is also a safety feature for our children.
The dress code items for boys and girls must be worn every day as specified (except for casual days):
Red Jellybean Park Sweater OR Jellybean Park T-shirt
White Shirt underneath sweater or t-shirt
Navy blue pants or blue jeans
Navy blue skirt or jean skirt (Girls)
Solid blue, white or black tights underneath the skirt
No extra colours or pictures or logos on the white shirt, pants, skirt or tights
-
At Jellybean Park, we have security cameras located in each room as well as throughout the building.
We have cameras monitoring each room of the building and will have your child on these feeds if they are participating in the program. The purpose of these cameras is not for external viewing by parents or third parties but only for safety purposes, demonstration of various program activities for teacher training or for record keeping within the program.
-
At Jellybean Park we utilize an application called Lilio to communicate with parents about their child’s day and learning. On this app we record daily information for the infant and toddler classrooms and weekly learning updates for the Prep and Pre-K classrooms. Monthly food menus as well as details about what your child is learning is also on the app.
The Director will also communicate any important notices to parents on this app.
Enrollment info
-
Jellybean Park maintains a waiting list for space in all our programs. The waitlist is on a first come first serve basis, but priority will be given to children of families already enrolled in other Jellybean Park programs
There is no fee to be placed on the waiting list.
Available spaces are unpredictable and therefore a set period of wait time can not be answered. It will depend on withdrawals and program availability.
When a space becomes available, a family is contacted from the waiting list by email or phone and is provided a specified time frame, typically 24 hours, to accept the space and start date.
Once your child is officially offered a space, in order to secure that space, you will be required to pay a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable deposit. The deposit is refunded off of the child's last months' fees as long as the appropriate 2 months notice is given of withdrawal.
You will remain on the center’s waiting list until you request to be removed, have been offered a space twice and declined both times or until such a time that you have not responded to a call or email offering a spot or asking if you wish to remain on the waiting list.
-
If a space comes available in our program we will call families of our waitlist to fill the space. Once your child is officially offered a space, we will bring you in for a detailed tour of our Centre. After the tour, if you wish to secure that space, you will be required to pay a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable deposit.
Once those fees are received, your space in our program is guaranteed.
-
At Jellybean Park we charge a refundable deposit fee and a non-refundable registration fee for every child that registers with us.
The deposit amount is a half month's fees and is held on file until the time that your child is withdrawn or ages out of the program. Two month's notice of withdrawal is required in order to have the deposit refunded.
The one time registration fee is charged in order to secure placement in our program and covers the additional administrative duties required in accepting registration.
Care
-
In order to assist families with the transition to a new Centre, gradual entry will be arranged by the Director of the Centre on a family by family basis. Gradual entry is a common process where during the child's first week, they attend the Centre with a gradual buildup of hours each visit.
-
Our guidance objective is to help children acquire the skills they need to resolve conflicts:
· in socially acceptable ways;
· to the child's own satisfaction; and
· without loss of pride.
Teachers will employ guidance techniques based on the Ministry of Health booklet "Guidance & Discipline with Young Children". We want to facilitate children's development of self-control, self-confidence, and ultimately self‑ discipline.
To this end we actively encourage verbal expression of feelings and assertion of felt needs.
-
Children who are not well enough to participate in all program activities, both indoor and outdoor, should remain at home and not come to the Centre until they do not have any signs of the illness – usually a minimum of 2 days.
In the circumstances that a child demonstrates any of the following symptoms in conjunction with another, teachers will be calling the parents to come pick up their child from the Centre and will keep the child at home from school for a minimum of 24 hours:
Runny nose
Coughing and or sneezing
Fever
Listlessness or tiredness
If a child demonstrates any of the following symptoms (being in conjunction with another symptom is not necessary) during the day – teachers will contact parents to come pick up their child as soon as possible and parents will keep the child at home from school for a minimum of 2 days:
Nausea or Vomiting (projectile and/or during a stomach flu outbreak)
Diarrhea (2 in a 30 minute period)
Fever (above 39 degrees centigrade)
Because children often become ill rapidly, it is essential that families can be reached by telephone during childcare hours. If the parent cannot be available, an alternate emergency contact should be designated. If a child becomes ill at the Centre, staff will isolate and care for the child until the parent arrives. In the event of an emergency, a child may be taken by the staff to the nearest clinic or hospital. Parents will be notified ASAP and attempts will be made to contact the child’s physician.
If a child contracts a communicable disease, notify the Centre staff at once so that other families can be alerted. A doctor's written health clearance will be required before a child can return following a communicable illness. Examples of communicable illnesses that require a doctor’s clearance before returning to care are:
Pink Eye
Rash of any kind (hand foot and mouth, Roseola etc.)
Chicken Pox
Eczema (if open sores etc.)
Though not a communicable disease, should an outbreak or case of Lice occur at the Centre, the staff will ask the Parent to pick up and treat the child for 24hrs. Once it is determined that the child has been treated, they may return to care once there are no eggs, larvae or adults present in the child’s hair. The child will be asked to stay at home again or be treated again of the problem persists.
The following are definite indicators that a child should not be at the Centre:
A developing or acute cold with fever, runny nose and/or eyes, coughing, sore throat. Once temperature, energy and well being are normal, coughing and runny nose may continue without the child being infectious.
Fever over 38 degrees centigrade (100 degrees Fahrenheit).
Communicable disease, infected skin or undiagnosed rash ‑ whether or not a child is infectious requires verification by the child's doctor (e.g. the rash could be measles, scabies, etc.) so other families can be informed and take precautions.
Vomiting or Diarrhea.
-
Rest time is a healthy part of a child's development. Children have a rest time each day after lunch. The older children will rest for one to one and a half hours per day. If a child does not nap in his day, quiet activities will be offered. Teachers will not keep children awake (as per a parents request) if they choose to sleep.
-
All Jellybean programs will limit screen time to a maximum of 30 minutes per day if, and only applicable to, learning programs. (ie. Math, Science, Letterland and Theme) This may occur once a month
Some of our theme or Prodigy Circle lesson plans may include a short video clip or song ranging from 1-3 minutes as a learning visual and tool
All Full time and Part time programs will limit Friday Movie Day to only 30 minutes
Nutrition
-
Jellybean Park will provide a hot lunch in the afternoon. Parents are asked to feed their child breakfast before they come to school and bring a snack to school for snack time.
Lunch will be wholesome and low in refined sugar and processing.
-
Yes, Jellybean Park is a nut free facility
-
Many of our students also have allergies and if a child is allergic to a specific food, all efforts will be made by the cook to remove it from their daily menu. Our cook can meet the needs of dairy allergies and will provide a milk substitute only (no yogurt, cheese etc.) at no extra cost to the parent.
Items such as egg, tomatoes and wheat cannot be removed from the daily menu as these items are a nutritional benefit to all our students.
Should a child be allergic to one of these items, you will be advised at registration that you will be required to bring their own lunch from home for the child.
Financial
-
Please find details of our childcare fees here
-
Yes, Jellybean Park is part of the government's Childcare Fee Reduction Initiative.
The current Childcare Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI) benefits are determined by the Provincial Government. These deductions may/can be rescinded and/or changed by either the Centre or the Government at any time. If this occurs, the parent is responsible for the full childcare fee amount.
At this time only children in an Infant and Toddler program, 3-5 year old program and School Age program qualify for the reduction. The reduction reduces the monthly childcare fee from the amount stated in the registration forms by the qualifying amount.
-
Yes, Jellybean Park accepts the Affordable Childcare Benefit.
You may be eligible for the Affordable Childcare Benefit depending on the number of people in your family and the net family income. To determine if your family is eligible for this benefit please visit the website here.
This site will provide you with a calculator to determine if you qualify and all the necessary forms with which to apply. One of these forms needs to be filled out by the Office Administrator, as part of the application process. Once the Ministry has assessed all the paperwork provided you with a benefit form, the Centre can then claim for this benefit online. The Office Administrator will then determine the balance of your fee payable.
While you are awaiting your ACCB authorization, it is still the parent’s responsibility to cover the entire fee payment until the ACCB authorization is accessible for claiming online.
If a tuition payment is made by a parent before an ACCB payment is received, then the ACCB amount will be credited to the parent in the following month after the ACCB payment is received.
-
Two month's written notice is required via the Jellybean Park withdrawal form (60-62 days) when withdrawing a child from the program. The deposit will be returned to the family provided all fees owing to the Centre have been paid and the two month’s written notice withdrawal form has been received. If a family registers in the program (provides a deposit) and then chooses not to attend, (even if within 60 days of beginning the program) then the deposit is not refunded.
-
Fees are due on the first of each month. Parents are asked to provide a void cheque to process fees via our Telpay payment system which direct debits the bank account.
-
Yes, official annual receipts for childcare fees will be issued at the end of February of each year.
Teaching Team
-
Our staff to child ratio is low so that each child receives our individual and undivided attention. Standard ratios to meet licensing requirements are:
Infant and Toddler - 1 teacher to 4 children
Prep and Pre-K (3-5 years old) - 1 teacher to 8 children
School Age - 1 teacher to 10 children
-
We are fortunate to have staff from a variety of cultural backgrounds and have many different languages spoken at the Centre.
Depending on the classroom, our teachers are all qualified IT, ECE, ECE Assistants or Responsible Adults.
-
Members of our teaching team are carefully selected, trained and evaluated as well as undergo background checks before their first day of work. Once hired, each staff member receives ongoing training and must have up to date First Aid certification, with renewals every 3 years.
